Dr. John Martin Prince, age 88, of Bristol, VA., passed away at home surrounded by his adoring family on Saturday, November 7, 2015.  He was born March 2, 1927 in Abgindon, VA., the son of the late John Martin and Georgia Prince.  Dr. Prince was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

He was a graduate of Carson Newman College and the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia before returning home to  Wise, Va. to practice dentistry for 58 years, retiring at the age of 86.  During his semi-retirement, Dr. Prince was recognized for his volunteer work providing free dental care to underserved popuplations through People Inc. of Abingdon Virginia.

He was a longtime member of Wise Baptist Church and was later actively involved at Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol Va.

Dr. Prince was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and took great pride in having toured all 50 states on his Harley with some of his closest friends.  He was an accomplished sportsman, hunter, archer, and woodworker.  All six of his children graduated from Virginia Tech and he spent many Saturdays with his family cheering on the Hokies in Lane Stadium.  Dr. Prince was active in his community of Wise Virginia where he was involved in the Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and served on a number of committees and boards. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law and the son of the heart, Phillip Timp.

He was married to his loving wife Phyllis for 64 years.

He is survived by his children, John Martin "Marty" Prince Jr.  and wife Jacque, Steven Prince, and wife Shelia, Cindy Timp, William "Bill" Prince and wife, Gena, Phillip Prince and wife, Andrea, Jeff Prince and partner Michael Jolly; brothers Howard Prince and wife, Alice, Lester Prince and wife, Mary Jo; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dr. Prince is greatly missed by all who loved him.
